Here's a brief summary of some of our main beliefs, which were first outlined and explained by those who led a rebirth, or re-formation of the church as it was in the 16th century. (Scripture reference provided for your study)
We believe the Old and New Testament are God's uniquely revealed and written Word, inspired by the Holy Spirit, serving as the first and final authority in all areas of faith and life. (II Timothy 3:16-17)
We worship the one, living and true God who is revealed in the Bible and is the source of all life and goodness. We believe in the mystery of the Holy Trinity, confessing that God is one in essence or nature, yet exists in three distinct persons - the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
(Genesis 1:1; John 14:26 )
We believe human beings were created in the likeness of God, to know, love and obey God. Shortly after being created, humans failed to acknowledge, worship or obey God..., instead they lived for and served themselves. This rebellion against God became self-destructive and changed the very nature of humanity..., from that which was intended to be good, to that which was self-seeking, rebellious, dishonest and violent..., this condition is what we call sin. (Romans 3:10-23)
Since humanity could not restore itself, God sent His Son, Jesus the Christ, uniquely fully human and fully God. His work of healing and forgiveness, His great teaching and His ability to restore those who suffer spiritually, mentally or emotionally to wholeness, testify to His unique character. He is the perfect and full expression of the mind and heart of God our Creator. ( John 1:1-3 )
Jesus' death on the cross was the necessary, redemptive, sacrifice for the sins of the world. In His death, He fulfilled prophecies that had been spoken hundreds of years earlier and He also perfectly fulfilled the role both of High Priest and sacrificial lamb. Three days after He died, Jesus bodily rose from His grave demonstrating the power of God over death and guaranteeing eternal life for all who beleive. ( I Corinthians 1:23-25)
All spiritual salvation is a merciful work of God accomplished through the death of Christ given to all who simply believe or have faith that Jesus is the Christ.., that is, the One able to restore our marred spiritual condition, to one which is right, good and reflective of God's intended purpose. ( John 3:16 )
The indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit in the individual and collective life of beleivers brings transformation of our lives - lives of increasing power, wholeness, boldness, wisdom, peace and understanding of our purpose on Earth! The Holy Spirit shows forth the righteousness and power of God in the believer and the church through the distribution of spiritual gifts. (Galatians 5:22-25)
The church receives from Jesus two sacred actions known as sacraments, which are real physical representatives of the real spiritual blessings which are ours when we follow Jesus Christ as our Lord. The Lord's Supper represents to us our ongoing communion with the living, risen Lord and affords us the opportunity to be nourished by the powerful presence of our loving Lord. Baptism is the outward sign and spiritual seal of our incorporation into Christ through believing and receiving the washing away of our sin and it's deadly hold. ( Matthew 28:18-20 )
