Time for Those New Year’s Resolutions!

Every year we make New Year’s resolutions regarding physical fitness, eating healthy, Bible reading…and the list goes on and on. However, most of these resolutions and promises we make concern a promise we make to ourselves. What about the promises that God makes to us?
Jeremiah 29:11 states, “For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, to give you a hope and a future.” Often times this verse is taken to mean that God has a plan to give you a new car and fill your bank account. Actually, the promise is better than that!
How is the promise better than that? The Israelites had been taken into Babylonian captivity and Jerusalem had been destroyed. God was telling the Israelites in Jeremiah 29:11 that He was going to rebuild their nation, both physically and spiritually. God was going to do something better than just fill their wallets. He was going to rebuild their families, communities, churches, city, and ultimately restore their salvation through Christ Jesus.
My question to you this New Year is this: How are you submitting to the plans and future that God has for you this year? It really is not about what WE plan, but rather tapping into the blessings and future that GOD has planned for us. Let me suggest some areas through which to pray that God might be leading you:
-What ways can you bless your family and community?
-How can you impact your city for the witness of Christ?
-What can Christ do with your job and career to help expand His kingdom in your city?
-Who can you disciple and pour into this year to help them grow in life and in faith?
-What people is God putting on your heart to witness to?
These are just some areas that God might have “plans to prosper you…to give you a hope and a future,” plans of which you might not have thought of for this year! Are you willing to submit to His plan for your life to be used by Him in 2012?
